FAQ

What is a parenting plan?

A parenting plan, or parenting agreement, is an expanded "custody" agreement with the full force of the law behind it when it's filed with the court.

A permanent, and legally binding parenting agreement or parenting plan arrangement is required by many courts, even if you and the other parent have never legally married.

Why do I need a parenting plan?

In many states, a parenting agreement, or parenting plan is required, however, for most it provides complete piece-of-mind, and eliminates:

  • most arguments regarding children, or a child,
  • surprise attacks from the other parent,
  • questions as when each parent will have the child or children,
  • who pays for what in regard to the child, or childrens, activities, clothing, school, insurance, etc., and
  • the constant feeling of stress a child is under when both of his, or her, parents are with them.

The bottom line, a parenting plan gives you the piece of mind to really enjoy being with your child(ren) rather than worrying about them, their well-being, and how they are handled with their other parent.
